George Benda

George Benda is chairman and CEO of Chelsea Group, Ltd., where he oversees indoor air quality and mold investigations and remediation projects. Mr. Benda is well known for indoor environmental problem solving and has led teams in a wide range of investigations involving biological and chemical contamination, sick-building syndrome, and building-related illness. He has been awarded patents for new technology in air sensing and air cleaning, and his groundbreaking research on indoor air quality markets has been widely cited in industry and general media. His training skills have been recognized by the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), which awarded Mr. Benda the "Environmental Educator of the Year" for 1996, and by IAQ Publications, which named him "IAQ Trainer of the Year" for 1997. Mr. Benda is currently the Chairman of the Board for Certification for Indoor Air Quality Professionals at AEE. He is on the Board of Directors for the Indoor Air Quality Association and an active member of ASHRAE. Mr. Benda is a Certified Indoor Air Quality Professional and holds a master's degree from the University of Chicago and a bachelor's degree from Rockford College.

Barney Burroughs

H.E. (Barney) Burroughs is a technical consultant in the field of indoor environmental quality and is a recognized expert in indoor air quality and air cleaning. He is the president of Building Wellness Consultancy, Inc., a firm specializing in indoor air quality diagnostics and mitigation. Mr. Burroughs is an outside director of Environmental Design International, Ltd. (EDI Engineers), a building performance, communications/security, and environmental engineering company, and also an outside director of HP-Woods Institute, a research firm. A past president of ASHRAE, he serves on the Society’s Standing Standards Project Committee 62.2, which is creating the first national standard for residential building indoor air quality. He is active with the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), a founding member and former chair of AEE’s Certified Indoor Air Quality Professional Certification Board, and the co-instructor in its Professional Certification Training Course. Mr. Burroughs is the revision author of Managing Indoor Air Quality, 2nd edition, Burroughs/Hansen, and the co-author of the current AEE course Fundamentals of Indoor Air Quality, developed in partnership with Chelsea Group. Mr. Burroughs holds a bachelor of arts degree in science from DePauw University.

Wayne Thomann

Wayne Thomann, DrPH, is an assistant clinical professor at Duke University Medical Center and serves as the deputy chair of the Biohazard Science/Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety Graduate Curriculum at Duke University’s Nicholas School of the Environment. He serves on the committee that is revising the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Standard 62, “Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality,” and on the American Society for Testing and Materials Committee D22 on Sampling and Analysis of Atmospheres (Indoor Air Quality). His research has contributed to the understanding of the airborne dynamics of Aspergillus spores and prevention of their spread. As part of the Chelsea Expert Team, Dr. Thomann has worked on projects related to mold abatement and the possible effects of terrorism on buildings. He holds bachelor of science and a master of science degrees in microbiology from Florida Atlantic University and a doctorate in public health from the University of North Carolina.

Dave Munn

David Munn, PE, is a principal with Chelsea Group, Ltd. With an extensive engineering background and field experience in ventilation and indoor air quality, Mr. Munn has designed several significant projects demonstrating advanced ventilation techniques and technology innovations. He has knowledge of national standards and regulations, and experience with building mechanical system design and operation. Mr. Munn is an active member of ASHRAE, AEE, the Indoor Air Quality Association (IAQA), and the American Society of Hospital Engineers. He is registered as a professional engineer in the states of Arizona and Illinois, was licensed as a general contractor in Arizona, and is an IAQA Certified Indoor Environmentalist and Certified Mold Remediator.

Ian Cull

Ian Cull, PE, CIE, CIAQP, CMR is the Director of Training for Chelsea Training. Mr. Cull has developed and taught numerous seminars, certification courses and customized IAQ presentations. Mr. Cull is a master trainer for the Indoor Air Quality Association and has taught their Certified Indoor Environmentalist (CIE), Certified Mold Loss Prevention (MLP), and the Fundamentals of Indoor Air Quality and HVAC courses. His in-depth knowledge in all aspects of IAQ and building science make him a highly respected and commended teacher. Mr. Cull is a professional environmental engineer who has managed a large number of projects focusing on diagnosing and preventing mold and other indoor air quality problems. Mr. Cull also developed educational websites www.LabComparisons.com and www.IAQcomparisons.com as a helpful tools for the IAQ industry. He is a Licensed Professional Engineer, a Certified Indoor Air Quality Professional, a Certified Indoor Environmentalist, and a Certified Mold Remediator. Mr. Cull serves on the Board of Directors of the IAQA as well as the Education Committee.

Melissa Ling

Melissa Ling, CIH, is a principal with Chelsea Group, Ltd. With expertise in mold contamination and indoor air quality, Ms. Ling manages investigation and remediation of buildings with biological and chemical contamination, including work in hospitals, schools, daycare centers, and office facilities. She leads the development of testing and monitoring protocols for indoor air quality projects as well as the testing and verification of technologies to improve the indoor environment. In addition to teaching for the INVIRONMENT Institute, Ms. Ling co-developed the Fundamentals of Indoor Air Quality curriculum and exam for the Association of Energy Engineers’ Certified Indoor Air Quality Professional certification, and she also leads indoor air quality training for Johnson Controls Institute. She also provides training for building managers, attorneys, and real estate professionals on mold risk prevention. Ms. Ling is a Certified Industrial Hygienist. She holds the Certified Indoor Environmentalist certification from the Indoor Air Quality Association and a bachelor of science degree in biochemistry from Michigan State University.

Jodi Greene

Jodi Greene, PE, CIE is a professional engineer with Chelsea Group, Ltd. Ms. Greene leads investigations of buildings with indoor air quality concerns, creating customized, innovative solutions for each unique project, such as odor containment during a roofing project, and mold removal and remediation in an office renovation. She brings her experience in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning design and practices to indoor air quality site assessment and remediation, and also to her technical training courses on minimizing costs and risks associated with indoor air quality problems for building managers and engineers. An active member of ASHRAE and AEE, Ms. Greene regularly tracks and delivers reports on all indoor air quality standards actions. She is a licensed professional engineer in the state of Illinois and is a Certified Indoor Environmentalist. Ms. Greene graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering.

Terry Gorski

Terry Gorski is a project engineer with Chelsea Group, Ltd. In addition to providing engineering and consulting services for indoor air quality diagnosis and remediation, Ms. Gorski conducts strategic research for a wide variety of client projects, ranging from marketing strategies to product development. She manages the extensive Chelsea Group technical resource library by researching, acquiring information, and managing databases of scientific papers, current industry standards and codes, statistics and trends, and new product technologies. Her background also includes ten years in the industrial design and engineering fields. She has a degree in industrial design from the University of Illinois Chicago.
